Civic Micro-Action Checklist
72-hour challenge: turn what you just read into one traceable local action. Every item is phone-accessible. Pick the ones that fit your energy today.
Progress: 0 / 0
Hour 0–4: Understand
Name the issue in one sentence. Write it in your notes app. Not a paragraph — one sentence you'd text to a friend.
2 min · from your phone
Identify the decision-maker. Who has actual power over this issue in your area? School board member? City council? State representative? Google "[your city] + [issue] + who decides."
5 min · phone/laptop
Find one local org already working on this. They've already done the research. You don't need to start from scratch.
5 min · phone search
Hour 4–24: Prepare
Draft a 3-sentence message to the decision-maker. Sentence 1: who you are. Sentence 2: what you're asking. Sentence 3: why it matters locally. That's it.
10 min · notes app
Find the contact channel. Email? Public comment form? Social media DM? Office phone? Get the actual link or number saved.
3 min · phone search
Tell one person what you're doing. Text a friend, post a story, or tell a family member. Accountability makes action 3x more likely.
2 min · text/DM
Hour 24–72: Act
Send the message. Don't edit it again. Send it. A sent 80% message beats an unsent perfect one.
1 min · email/form/phone
Screenshot the send confirmation. This is your receipt. You acted. Save it.
10 sec · phone
Follow up in 7 days if no response. Set a calendar reminder right now. One follow-up doubles your chance of getting a reply.
1 min · calendar app
Share what happened. Even if nothing happened yet — share that you tried. Normalize civic action in your network.
2 min · social/group chat
Low-energy day? Just do items 1 and 2. Knowing the issue and the decision-maker is already more than most people have. You can send the message tomorrow.
