You closed the schedule app and could not name what you felt. It was not anger and not despair — something quieter, the part of the heart that has been registering for years that the instability is the design, not the exception.

The United Nations reported on August 19, 2026, that new illegal Israeli outposts are being constructed in the occupied West Bank. The UN rights office specifically condemned statements made by Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, which it says incite violence against Palestinians. These outposts, built without authorization from Palestinian landowners or Israeli authorities, are increasing tensions in the region and impacting over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank.

This escalation follows a period of heightened unrest, triggered by a shortfall in international pressure on Israel to halt settlement expansion. Since January 2026, the number of demolition orders against Palestinian homes and structures has risen by 45% according to data from the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. This surge coincides with Ben-Gvir’s appointment and increasingly inflammatory rhetoric.

She asks them to begin dhikr — one breath, one remembrance — and to let the practice loosen what the precarity had locked, so the heart can begin to remember its own worth before the platform's frame returns.

Cooperatives, directives, and Fair Workweek laws can be counted. The longing for work that does not require the body to keep paying the difference — the ishq that pulls a young worker back into the room — cannot. Maat's tradition does not argue with the metrics. It tends the longing the metrics cannot see, and lets the longing be the engine the institutional response was never built to carry.

In the Naqshbandi tariqat, the qalb — the spiritual heart — is not a metaphor. It is the organ through which the lover encounters the Beloved, and dignity is one of the places that encounter happens. When the schedule app keeps misnaming a worker's worth, the qalb registers the misnaming as personal because the relationship was never separate to begin with.
